Mold Alexandra 1 Denbigh Town 2
Saturday 20 February 2010
Cymru Alliance League

Mold Alexandra lost this game with a sucker punch with 5 minutes of the game left to play, the home side certainly where the better of the two sides in the second-half with Mold having 10 shots to Denbigh’s 3 in that period.
Mold could also feel hard done to for the penalty given certainly was not one as Chris Guy won the ball, Denbigh though shaded the opening half and despite the sunshine the Alyn Park pitch was heavy going and their was still traces of snow by the paddock and stand.
Mold started the game and on 3 minutes Owain Roberts saw his shot saved for a corner that was taken by Chris Guy, and a Mold player blazed his shot wide.
A minute later Denbigh Town saw Darren Cassidy’s shot go over the home crossbar, both side’s where trying to play attacking football as much was at stake, then on 18 minutes Darren Cassidy charged through down the right wing at the clubhouse end of the ground only his goal bound shot cannoned back off the home crossbar with the home keeper Ryan Roberts well beaten.
Mold then had Richie Dermott booked for a foul on Kevin Evans on 25 minutes, then seconds later Denbigh’s Liam Jones was allowed too much space but he elected for a long range shot that was well off target, had Jones continued his run to the edge of the Mold area he may well have scored.
Mold attacked the Denbigh Town goal on 27 minutes and with Dave Bryan working his way into the visitors area and Mold playing some good football, Darren Pritchard’s run and pass to Bryan saw that players shot on goal only just go wide.
The home side were having a great spell and on 28 minutes a quick through ball by Graham Randles to Owain Roberts, released that player who made good ground into the Denbigh Town area but fired well wide, although Roberts appeared to have been fouled but stayed on his feet.
But Denbigh Town again came at Mold and on 30 minutes Darren Cassidy saw his shot from a tight angle saved, despite the close marking from the home defence.
Denbigh Town won a penalty on 33 minutes after Chris Guy was deemed by the match official Nick Platt to have up ended Darren Cassidy, but Guy had won the ball with a linesman in full view who did not flag for the offence, anyway a spot kick was awarded and Jamie Hobson made no mistake for 1-0.
Towards the end of the first-half Denbigh’s Stuart Vernon was allowed to turn, but the player put his shot over the home crossbar on 42 minutes.
After the interval a James Bevan shot took a deflection for a Mold corner that was taken by Terry Pughe, the ball was played over but Denbigh Town’s Jamie Duffy headed the ball clear on 46 minutes.
Mold continued to press for an equaliser and on 50 minutes Terry Pughe’s shot was literally smothered on the goal line by Denbigh Town keeper Arwel Hughes, then on 52 minutes James Bevan’s shot from outside the area was parried by the Denbigh keeper, but the ball just would not fall for Darren Pritchard and Denbigh’s Adrian Hoyle hooked the ball clear.
A minute later Denbigh Town had their first shot of the half, but Tom Sharples strike was easily saved by the Mold keeper, seconds later Mold equalised when Graham Randles despatched the ball to the bottom right at the clubhouse end of the ground for 1-1.
Mold pressed for the lead and further shots from Pritchard, Bryan and Randles the latter being a very powerful strike where either saved or slightly of target.
Mold scored on 72 minutes when James Bevan netted but the Referee had already blown up for offside before the ball hit the back of the net, then on 85 minutes Dave Bryan also had a goal ruled out for offside following a James Bevan cross.
Denbigh then quickly worked the ball forward and after a scramble Jamie Duffy headed the ball home for 2-1, with the home keeper appearing at 6’s and 7’s.
Mold had Terry Pughe booked on 87 minutes following a foul on Kevin Evans, Evans was then sent-off for what appeared to be retaliation and 3 minutes later Brett Jones was also booked.
Mold continued to press for an equaliser in injury time and despite strikes from Dave Bryan and Darren Pritchard they could not force a draw, in between their attempts Denbigh’s sub Jon Slater saw his shot saved, overall Mold played well especially in the second-half deserved more but got nothing but it’s not all doom and gloom for the side which has leaked 7 goals in 2 games will get back on the winning trail sooner rather than later.
