Berriew 2 Mold Alexandra 4 (Cymru Alliance League - Saturday 6 March 2010)

I was not going to put this write-up together but Gary asked me too, so here it is rather rushed last night, not sure what time Dave Bryan scored so I put it as in the last minutes of the game.

This game was marred by the broken leg of Mold Alexandra right-back Gary Burns in the 60th minute, it has since been confirmed that Gary broke his leg in 4 place’s.
The Berriew supporters clapped the player off the pitch as he was taken to the ambulance following a 20 minute delay in the match, overall as mentioned this is one result few will be celebrating.
Berriew had started the game and on 3 minutes the Mold keeper Ryan Roberts was called upon to make a save under pressure, this the player did but at a cost to an injury that delayed the game for 2 minutes, but thankfully the Mold number one was alright.
Mold took a 1-0 lead on 16 minutes when Graham Randles headed home a Dave Gleave cross following that players good run down the right flank, then 3 minutes later Terry Pughe’s long range shot from outside the area curled out wide for what was only the second shot of the first-half by either team.
Mold then had Dave Bryan booked on 21 minutes for a late tackle on John Harris, the free-kick by Mark Jones was then headed clear by the Mold defence.
The visitors again conceded a free-kick when Vigan Beqa was deemed to have fouled on the edge of the Mold area, but in all fairness it looked like he had won the ball, anyway from the direct free-kick by William Thomas the ball was blasted high over the crossbar.
The home side continued to look for an equaliser and on 31 minutes Ian Probert fired wide, but William Thomas had gone to ground looking for a penalty prior to Probert’s attempt on goal.
Berriew did equalise on 38 minutes when a William Thomas direct free-kick flew into the net for 1-1, the free-kick had been awarded against Gary Burns who had been deemed to have fouled when like Vigan Beqa before him had appeared to have won the ball fairly.
Berriew were having a bright spell and on 40 minutes following a Craig Roberts handball, a William Thomas free-kick came back off the near post and was scrambled away by the Mold defence.
But Mold Alexandra weathered the brief storm and on 41 minutes a Dave Bryan header was inches wide from a Dave Gleave pass, this had been Mold’s third attempt on goal.
But Berriew again were denied the lead when a cracking shot by Martin Ziemann from outside the area on 42 minutes, came back off the Mold post and was then quickly cleared by the Mold defence.
Mold however regained the lead in injury time when a long range strike by Terry Pughe was fumbled by the home keeper Lee Andrew before he pushed the ball out for a corner, from the corner Graham Randles headed home for 2-1.
After the interval Mold Alexandra restarted the game but it was Berriew who had the first shot that produced a fine save from Ryan Roberts on 47 minutes, Mold however increased their lead on 48 minutes when Terry Pughe rifled home at the near post from a Graham Randles run and cross for 3-1.
But on 60 minutes Mold lost Gary Burns with a broken leg, Burns went into a tackle to clear the ball on the edge of the visitors area and came off the worse, the game was then held up for 20 minutes while an ambulance was called, with both sides physically shocked the game finally restarted and shortly after Berriew pulled a goal back through Martin Ziemann.
Mold later won a direct free-kick that was taken by Simon Holloway, the ball came back of the home wall and the rebound by Terry Pughe was put wide, Mold Alexandra got their match winner late in the game winning 4-2 with a Dave Bryan goal.
